Austria transit at Slovenian port of Koper showed a clearly rising trend in the year 2010

In the Slovenian seaport of Koper the year 2010 is marked by a strong increase of goods flows with points of departure and destination in Austria. The container traffic volume alone soared up 60 per cent between January and October compared to the same period last year. Dr. Gregor Veselko, President of the Management Board Luka Koper d.d., presented this figure on 23 November at a port evening event in Vienna. About 130 guests from the circle of Austrian forwarding companies, shipping agencies and industry attended the event.

Port of Koper expects a total volume of sea cargo transit with Austria at around 4 million tons in 2010. The main type of goods is iron ore with 2 million tons delivered to the plants of voestalpine group in Linz and Donawitz, followed by coal importations at around 500,000 tons. Another 500,000 tons are accounted for by the product groups chemicals, diesel and methanol. The remaining volume is made up by container traffic, diverse industrial minerals, soy beans and wood trade.
