Agility accelerates delivery to Nokia’s plant in Romania

Agility’s new supply chain program from China to eastern Europe saves time and costs for its customer Nokia

The global logistics provider Agility and Nokia have launched a major supply chain initiative. The logistician handles shipments from its Hong Kong receiving centre to the factory of the mobile technology enterprise in Cluj, Romania. During a trial period of two months they were able to achieve double-digit cost savings on transportation and halving total transit time. In addition to significant reductions in transport costs and transit time, they expect also savings in and carbon emissions, while offering high levels of security and stability of shipment transit. The service is now in full operation. The two enterprises have decided to include not just Hong Kong but also mainland China in this new program.

The centre in Romania – named the Nokia “Goods in Transit Center” (GIT-C) – is a key element in the solution. The customer benefits from a number of innovative processes being implemented in this facility: automated on-line booking tools, dedicated Nokia cargo space – resulting in elimination of waste in the air cargo supply chain, and high-tech solution delivering accurate and comprehensive cargo information to the Nokia factory in Romania, before goods leave Hong Kong.

“The success of the program can be attributed to close collaboration across our combined teams,” said Essa Al-Saleh, President & CEO, Agility Global Integrated Logistics. “This enabled us to understand the needs and deliver a solution that is innovative, reliable and easy to be implemented. The result is lowering of costs, but also improved quality in the supply chain.”
