AMERICAN AIRLINES LAUNCHES WORLD’S ONLY SERVICE BETWEEN NEW YORK AND TOKYO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AT HANEDA

American Airlines Cargo has commenced services to Tokyo Haneda from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport, and on February 20 began the return service, to New York from Haneda. American is the first airline in the USA to launch service between continental United States and Japan’s Tokyo Haneda Airport.

Following the historic Open Skies Agreement in 2010 between the United States and Japan, American Airlines has launched cargo services from New York’s John F. Kennedy airport utilizing a wide-bodied B777 aircraft to and from Haneda, providing connections throughout Japan and other destinations in Asia, via its core interline partners. According to the International Air Transport Association, freight markets in Asia are spearheading the rise in world air cargo volumes.

“Our new flight opens important new daily trade lane opportunities for our customers, with connections throughout the United States and Latin America from Asia, and new connections throughout Japan from Haneda.” said Dave Brooks, President of American Airlines Cargo.

American Airlines will be the only airline to serve both Narita and Haneda airports from New York, and expects to move outbound U.S. consignments of flowers from South America, seafood from the East Coast of the United States aboard the new trans-Pacific service.

From Tokyo Haneda, auto parts and construction equipment are likely commodities which will connect to Latin American destinations such as Rio de Janerio and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
