AsstrA to deliver tramcars to St. Petersburg

AsstrA group gives support in transport and logistic within the project to upgrade public transportation in St. Petersburg

Within the project to upgrade public transportation in St. Petersburg the international logistics holding AsstrA started the first transportations of Belorussian tramcars to Russia. "In consultation with the manufacturer the first shipments began at the end of 2012 and will continue this year,” says Oleg Germanovich, CEO of AsstrA Forwarding. “Together with the sub-holding AsstrA Transport, that provided us with its own fleet, we started deliveries from Minsk to St. Petersburg. The transportations of the oversized cargo required careful study of the route, necessary permits and approvals from the municipal and road services".

"Taking into consideration some structural features of the cargo (a tram consisted of 3 sections) we had to organize two trucks to deliver a tram. We used a large-capacity vehicle such as Scania with an open area and loading height equal to 1m. The height of the carriage exceeded 50cm, so we needed a special approval for its transportation and especial vehicles that were equipped with a device to measure the height of a road bridge while passing under it", – says Oleg Grebenko, CEO of AsstrA Transport.

Heavy and oversized cargo deliveries are carried out on various routes, both within and to/from the CIS and EU. In 2012 AsstrA implemented up to 20 per cent of the moving vehicle transportations among the total volume of all year deliveries for the automotive industry – one of the major industries that they focus on. AsstrA works with the leading automotive industry corporations and their suppliers in the CIS and provides transportations by road, in a container or a combined delivery scheme via the major ports of the world. Customs clearance and cross docking are a part of full complex of AsstrA’s forwarding services.

AsstrA is an international company with its head office in Zurich (Switzerland) with a strong business reputation and nearly 20 years of experience in logistics. About 800 company employees work in CIS countries, Western and Eastern Europe and China.
