Austria counts among top investors in Romania

Cargo volumes in transit through Austria towards Constanza doubled in the year 2011
 
Austria is one of Romania’s main economic partners being ranked among the top of foreign investors regarding the invested capital. The Austrian market is playing a big role for the Port of Constantza, as the port is a traditional partner for Austria, being used for the exports and imports of Austrian commodities, as Aurelian Andrei Popa, General Manager of National Company Maritime Ports Administration S.A. Constantza, points out in the interview with the Austrian transport magazine Österreichische Verkehrszeitung.
 
Cargo volumes on the route between the port of Constantza and Austria have doubled compared to 2010. In 2010 the port registered 736,238 tonnes in throughput, in 2011 the volume reached about 1.5 million tonnes. According to the types of cargo the solid mineral fuels, with 1,074,896 tonnes were overthrowing grains and ores that had dominated the cargo traffic between ConstantzaPort and Austrian ports until 2010. In 2011 Constanza registered big increases in the traffic figures as compared to 2010 in metal produces (from 9,395 tonnes to 139,325 tonnes), grains (from 22,036 tonnes to 38,788 tonnes), food products and fodders (from 8,810 tonnes to 44,662 tonnes).
 
ConstantzaPort is underway to develop bilateral relationships, thus having concluded a protocol of cooperation with the Turkish port of Pendik, with the ports of Turkmenistan as well as with the Georgian ports on the Black Sea, Poti and Batumi. Moreover the port of Constanza has in view several important investment projects, such as the increase of depths in the fairways and basins or the construction of a metal road bridge.
