Best quarterly result in the history of Kuehne + Nagel

Reinforced distribution activities of Kuehne + Nagel set up the basis for continuous growth

The worldwide operating Kuehne + Nagel Group prolongs its growth strategy. Against the background of the economical environment being quite favourable for the logistics sector, the enterprise registers a continuous increase of business volumes. Still better: the operational result (EBITDA) of CHF 271 million in the third quarter 2010 marked a record in the company’s history. Compared with the first nine months of last year turnover rose by 18.6 per cent (currency-adjusted by 22.6 per cent) to CHF 15,178 million. The operational result increased by 7.5 per cent (adjusted by 12.0 per cent) to CHF 746 million. Net earnings improved by 16.0 per cent (adjusted by 20.2 per cent) to CHF 449 million.

In the seafreight division Kuehne + Nagel reported a 17 per cent increase for container volumes during the first nine months of 2010. Growth dynamic in the global market, however, has waned in the third quarter, as they state in a press release. Kuehne + Nagel’s increased sales and marketing activities contributed significantly to further market share gains. As for airfreight Kuehne + Nagel increased tonnage by 29 per cent in the first nine months, although growth in the international airfreight market had slowed in the middle of the year. The growth drivers were especially the trade lanes from and to Asia. At the same time, the company benefited from its service offerings tailored to specific industries, such as pharmaceuticals, high-tech and perishables. In the first three quarters of 2010, Kuehne + Nagel’s European overland activities registered a growth in net turnover of 9.5 per cent. Regarding contract logistics the recovering domestic economies of the leading industrial nations led to a stabilisation of the net turnover at the previous year’s level.
