BLG Logistics assumes additional tasks for Tchibo

High bay warehouse of BLG Logistics Group in Bremen to take over online business of its major customer Tchibo from the end of 2013

In the BLG Logistics Group’s high bay warehouse in Bremen the topping-out ceremony of a new building was held on 26 June. From the end of 2013 the company is to attend to the online business of its major customer Tchibo this location. This requires considerable investments into a new sorting facility, an automated small parts warehouse, a conveyor bridge between the sorting facility and the existing complex, as well as comprehensive technical and IT equipment.

On behalf of Tchibo the BLG Logistics Group currently organises via its high bay warehouse the primary supply of sales points in north and west Germany, as well as all distribution centres and subsequent supply of their entire European trade. With the investment amounting to more than EUR 50 million they created the basis to handle growing online activities. This new business doubles the logistics volume handled on behalf of Tchibo. In 2002 the high bay warehouse was built for 120,000 pallet slots. In 2006 a third storage block was added, which expanded the capacity to 200,000 slots.

Detthold Aden, Head of BLG, sees the advantages of concentrating logistics at the high bay warehouse in being able to serve all trades channels of Tchibo from one facility. This increases efficiency and the cost-benefit-ratio. The additional order volume is to be integrated into a tight schedule during running operations.
