DB Schenker Logistics expands in the Black Sea region

Bulgarian company of DB Schenker Logistics adds locations in Varna and Burgas to its network

With two new locations in the Black Sea region DB Schenker Logistics strengthens its network in Southeast Europe. With the opening of offices in the Bulgarian port cities of Varna and Burgas, the basis for the processing of new customer projects was created.

In Varna, the Bulgarian subsidiary Schenker EOOD has been renting a facility with 3,000 m² for warehousing and cross docking since the beginning of this year. "The site serves as a hub for the overseas traffic, but also as a transshipment point for specific customer projects. For a major German manufacturer of wind power plants, we organise spare parts logistics via Varna for the whole of Bulgaria", said Helmut Schweighofer, Managing Director of Schenker EOOD.

Via the forwarding facility in Burgas, also hired since the beginning of this year, Schenker EOOD distributes the incoming sea freight – mainly from Asia – in Southern Bulgaria. The port of Burgas has gained importance thanks to direct calls of the shipping companies Hapag-Lloyd and MSC. Moreover, in Burgas there are parts for solar panels in stock, which can be forwarded on call to the construction sites in Bulgaria.

In total Schenker EOOD in Bulgaria currently has 150 employees at six locations. The largest and most modern plant with its own rail siding was opened in mid-2010, in Sofia. On the medium term an investment is planned for a more efficient coverage of other important industrial regions in South Bulgaria.
