Donezk to be integrated into LOT route network

Polish airline LOT reinforces expansion of the Warsaw Airport as a hub for traffic between Western and Eastern Europe as well as Asia

 

LOT Polish Airlines is expanding its route network and flies to Donezk in Ukraine from early June 2011. Adding a flight to the fifth-biggest city of the country to the schedule is part of the new corporate strategy, which is to establish Warsaw Airport as a hub for traffic between Western and Eastern Europe as well as Asia. Last year LOT has added ten new destinations to the flight schedule.

Donezk eastern Ukraine is the centre of the Donbass coal field and an important industrial site for chemicals and steel. Moreover the city is one of four Ukrainian venues of UEFA-EURO 2012™. During the tournament three preliminary matches, one quarter and one semi final will be played in the Donbas-Arena, which was opened in 2009.

From 3 June 2011 the route to Donezk will be served three times per week, using modern regional jets of the types Embraer 170 and Embraer 175 . Flight LO 757 leaves Warsaw on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10.30 pm. and lands in Donezk at 01:40 am. the next morning. The return flight leaves the east Ukrainian metropolis on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 04.50 am and lands at 06.20 am. in the Polish capital.

LOT Polish Airlines was established in 1929 and is a very traditional airline. The current route network covers more than 50 destinations in Europe, the Near and Middle East, Asia and North America. As for Austrian traffic, they operate up to two daily flights from Vienna to Krakau and Warsaw.
