Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven “live in Vienna“

Germany’s only deepwater container terminal is to start operation with two berths for mega container vessels in August 2012

Germany’s port industry will soon gain a new attraction. On 28 February in Vienna Emanuel Schiffer, chairman of the Eurogate group management, presented first-hand information about Germany’s only deepwater container terminal (18 water depth), which is currently under construction. "The first two berths at the Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven will start operation on 6 August 2012”, the entrepreneur disclosed before about 100 guests.

In the last stage of expansion is reached in August 2013, four large container ships with capacities over 10,000 TEU can be handled simultaneously at the 1,715-meter quay wall of the Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven with 16 special cranes around the clock. Eurogate invested EUR 350 million in the construction of the superstructure, including 16 container bridges. In its final stage of expansion the annual capacity will be 2.7 million TEU.

The Euro Gate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is designed as a transhipment port for feeder services to Scandinavia, the Baltics and Russia. Due to its strategic location, it should develop into a hub for the Rhine/Ruhr region as an alternative to the North Range ports Rotterdam, Antwerp and Le Havre. The operating concept provides for the connection of the deepwater-container terminals to the intermodal network of Eurogate.Gruppe.
