Fercam reinforces logistic activities

Crisis in transport sector induces South Tyrolean Fercam Group to change their strategy

Responding to the general crisis of the transport sector, the South Tyrolean Fercam Group reinforces its focus on logistics activities and repositions its transport logistic service portfolio. The head of the company Thomas Baumgartner, announced in a press release that the facility in Verona will be enlarged by 2,000 sq.m.. Moreover he plans to construct a large logistics hall at the freight transport centre of Bologna.

As for the pure transport sector, Fercam Group is concentrating on high-quality services. Regarding this new focus, the fleet was downsized. Around 150 motorised units have been replaced by new Euro-5 trucks of Mercedes-Benz, which had required an investment of EUR 14 million.

Fercam, based in Bozen, has 1,250 employees at 55 locations, who generated a turnover of around EUR 390 million last year. Thus the 2008 value was missed by 16 per cent. According to the management the logistics activities have been increasing. They are rendered in facilities with a warehousing area of 269,000 square metres. The company’s fleet consists of 2,200 transport units.
