Hamburg gets new feeder service to Ust-Luga (Russia)

New liner services between Port of Hamburg and St. Petersburg boost container traffic with Russia from November

From November 2011 two new weekly feeder services will operate between the Port of Hamburg and Russia. The first ship is scheduled to leave Hamburg on 7 November. In addition to the RUS 1-service, operated with its own vessels, the shipping company Team Lines uses OOCL’s capacities for its RUS 2-service on the rotation Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Hamburg – Bremerhaven – Hamburg. The second container line to add Port of Hamburg to its schedule is Swan Container Line. Two 900 TEU container vessels are linking the German seaport to Russia through the following port rotation: Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Rotterdam – Hamburg.

Moreover the Unifeeder shipping line intends calling the new Russian container terminal in Ust-Luga from November. The shipping company is the first to add the new port at the gates of St. Petersburg to its schedule.

For the Port of Hamburg the new terminal in Ust-Luga will also play an important role for the handling of traffic with Russia in future. As for European container transport, Russia is deemed the most important trading partner of the north German universal port. In the first half of the year 2011 container volume between Hamburg and Russia increased 45 per cent year-on-year to 276,000 TEU.
