Innofreight gets on the train with SBB Cargo

Swiss cargo rail company SBB Cargo to use Innofreight container system for the transport of wood chippings as of now

SBB Cargo is to use an innovative transhipment system with tilting containers for all transports of wood chippings. The rotary discharge of the Styrian railway logistics specialist Innofreight allows faster unloading and increases efficiency for customers. The bigger volume simultaneously decreases SBB Cargo’s need of railcars.

The new transport system is in use for all shipments of wood chippings since recently. SBB Cargo operates four new train groups, each consisting of 24 railcars and 72 containers (total load capacity: 3,240 m³) from various locations in the German-speaking and western Switzerland, to Mortara in northern Italy. 96 cars of Sgns type are deployed in the carrier system. These are rented for the transport of wood chippings and replace the existing cars of the Eanos type, which were returned to the owner. Thanks to the increased load volume of the container system by one third SBB Cargo needs about 50 cars less than before.
