Intercontainer Austria registers large “continental“ demand

Intercontainer Austria records a strongly increasing demand for continental traffic

Frequency increases and possibly enhanced schedules are the response of Intercontainer Austria (ICA) to the strongly increasing demand for capacities to carry out unaccompanied combined transportations in Central Europe. “We are going to reinforce this business segment because there is great potential for growth“, Managing Director Wilhelm Patzner announced at a workshop of Container Terminal Salzburg GmbH and Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. in Anif at the middle of this week. As for maritime transport ICA wants to integrate more ports into its network.

Continental transportations have beat the maritime services of Intercontainer Austria for the first time last year. From the total volume of 368,565 TEU (down 16 per cent on 2008) 54 per cent or 198,909 TEU were handled with continental services. In maritime business they handled 169,656 TEU. With 300 employees in Austria, Hugnary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Rromania the ICA group has generated a turnover of EUR 140 million. The Austrian parent company, which has 90 employees, has achieved EUR 85 million of this sum.
