Kombiverkehr expects strong growth in traffic with SEE in 2011

9.1 per cent more truck consignments at Frankfurt’s Kombiverkehr KG in the business year 2010

Kombiverkehr KG in Frankfurt has won confidence again. Managing directors Robert Breuhahn and Armin Riedl hold out the prospect of reaching the record volume of 2008 in the year 2011 again. They forwarded more than 1 million consignments in their network then.

They expect the most significant increases on the routes to the western ports and to Eastern and Southeastern Europe. “The developing work from the past years is now yielding fruit on these routes in the form of particularly strong growth“, says Breuhahn. Moreover the recently launched services, like e.g. between Rostock and Wels, Ludwigshafen and Ljubljana as well as Herne and Helsingborg, ought to drive the network with additional volumes.

Last year Kombiverkehr KG transported 9.1 per cent or 77,486 truck consignments more than in 2009. The total amount of transported consignments was 933,039 (1.866 million TEU). The shift of transportations from road to rail saved more than 870,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). The introduction of CO2-free rail transport might give further impetus to the company. The energy required for rail transport of containers, swap bodies and semi trailers comes from renewable sources, like wind and hydraulic power. “We are confident about being able to offer the first CO2-free services on the market in the second half of the year", says Breuhahn.

Established in 1969, Kombiverkehr Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH & Co KG develops, organises and markts an international network for combined rail and road transport and is holds the position of the European market leader in this segment. Operating more than 160 direct and shuttle trains the enterprise provides more than 15,000 connections per night throughout Europe to forwarders and transport companies. The limited partnership company is held by around 230 national and international forwarding and transport companies as well as DB Mobility Logistics AG. Their 156 employees generated a turnover of EUR 347 million in 2009.
