LogServ takes over maintenance of WESTbahn rail vehicles

Cooperation of companies WESTbahn, Stadler and LogServ in private rail traffic will soon enter operative phase:

With Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ) the course has been set with regard to the provision of services for a new customer. For the private rail company WESTbahn Management GmbH the logistics service provider with headquarters in Linz will provide the workshop staff for the maintenance of rail vehicles. The private rail company operates a 3.200 sq. m. maintenance warehouse („WESTbox) at the voestalpine-site in Linz with good transport connections of the ÖBB track network.

As of 11 December, WESTbahn will operate the first private Intercity passenger train on the route between Vienna and Salzburg. The route will be operated on an hourly schedule with seven electric double-decker rail cars by the Swiss manufacturer Stadler. The LogServ workshop staff is in charge of maintenance and repairs of the vehicles. Test operations have been carried out full force since July.

The know-how for the maintenance for the aluminium alloy vehicles that have been especially adapted for use on the Westbahn (western railway route) was provided directly by the manufacturer on site. So far 12 LogServ workshop employees received this training. Maintenance plays an important role as WESTbahn aims at a high degree of availability of the vehicles and the passenger trains are supposed to be in operation 365 days a year. All maintenance work has to be carried out between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. as there is no passenger traffic at that time.

WESTbahn and LogServ also cooperate with regard to training. Some WESTbahn employees attended the LogServ training academy which qualifies people to work as chief operating officers respectively train drivers for EVUs (German for railway transportation companies).
