Major investment of Dachser in Slovakia

Dachser turns first sod on 17 August to expand its Eurohub in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava

The internationally acting logistics service provider Dachser reinforces its commitment at its location in Bratislava. Managing director Michael Schilling and the deputy mayor Dr. Vladimír Becár performed a ground-breaking ceremony in the Slovak municipality of Lozorno on 17 August to enlarge and modernise the Eurohub. With investments totalling around EUR 11 million a 3,400 m² logistics facility is being built at the site in Slovakia. It will include a large hall for throughput of industrial goods, which will be used by the branch and as a Eurohub. In addition, a 1,800 m² office building will be constructed. Completion of the new building is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011. A warehouse with 13,500 pallet spaces will be added in a second construction phase.

With this investment the enterprise responds to a steadily growing demand for intelligent logistics solutions and the increasing significance of the Bratislava Eurohub in the Dachser network. “As one of three major hubs, Bratislava plays a decisive role in goods distribution within Europe,” says Michael Schilling, Dachser managing director for European Network Management & Logistics Systems. “We are therefore extending our facility here to meet the challenges of the future”, he explains. Dachser has been present with an own national company in Slovakia since 2004, currently employing 110 persons. Since 2007 the logistics service provider operates an East European hub in Bratislava, which was upgraded to a Eurohub at the beginning of this year. Since April 12 countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and the Slovak Republic) are connected to the junction. Moreover there is a liner service available to the Eurohub in Überherrn and from 2011 the hub will also be linked to the new French Eurohub in Clermont-Ferrand. The Bratislava Eurohub operates daily precision-timed scheduled services for imports and exports to and from the above countries as well as Germany.
