Mega-container vessels find better options in Antwerp

Port of Antwerp offers larger time-windows for mega container vessels

In the future better framework conditions will apply to operators of mega container vessels at the Port of Antwerp. The navigable section on the Schelde-river is 14 meters for arriving as well as for departing vessels. So far there was a restriction to 13.5 meters downstream. “Moreover time-windows will be expanded“, the Antwerp Port Authority announced in a press release.

The new regulations issued by the "Permanent Commission for Supervision of Scheldt Navigation“ are advantageous for operators of vessels with 14,000 TEU capacity and more than 360 meters of total length. The first call of such a mega carrier was carried out in April with the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.
