New boat of the Federal Waterways Administration casts off

New boat was put into service and officially christened by Minister of Transport Doris Bures in the shipyard ÖSWAG Werft Linz AG
 
The Federal Waterways Administration of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) has added a new unit to its fleet. On 7 March 2013 Doris Bures Minister of Transport, christened the new BMVIT boat to the name “Linz” in the shipyard of ÖSWAG in the Upper Austrian capital. Two more units are currently on order. In close cooperation with ÖSWAG Werft Linz AG and BMVIT the Spirit Design company developed the exterior and interior design of the high-speed, transport and working boat. The use of innovative light construction materials, energy-efficient drive and shape, special ergonomics in the stay and working area as well as optimised maintainability were of priority.
 
The new BMVIT boat serves for traffic control and emergency management such as salvage and aid. Many features such as the new salvation system for persons, various towing options, flexible landing stages, a new fire-extinguishing system, as well as navigation and information systems to ensure the fulfillment of all tasks of the authorities.
 
By mid-2014 the new boats of the nautical administration police will equip a total of six points along the 350 km long segment of the Austrian Danube – Engelhartszell, Linz, Grein, Krems, Vienna and Hainburg. They are 19.5 meters long and 5.5 meters wide and equipped with 2×450 hp-motors. The boats serve the employees of the Federal Waterways Administration for performance of tasks according to waterway legislation on the international Danube waterway throughout the year.
