NYK Line enhances offering ex Hamburg to the US

Sprint service of the container shipping company NYK Line covers the route from Hamburg to New York in eleven days

From 13 March 2011 the Japanese container shipping company NYK Line adds another weekly departure from Hamburg to New York in the frame of the relaunched AES service (Atlantic Express Shuttle). “The service has short transit times, as the rotation just calls Hamburg, Antwerp and New York. Export containers take eleven days from Hamburg to New York, import takes nine days. Transit time from Antwerp to New York is eight days“, the enterprise writes in a press release.

The AES service doubles NYK Line’s offering from Hamburg to the North Amercia East Coast. Apart from Thursdays departures with the existing ATX service, from 13 March a second departure per week will be available on Sundays. Both loading ports (Hamburg and Antwerp) accept standard and reefer containers.

“Hamburg is regarded as the gate to Asia, but offers also big local load volume for the North American market. There is sufficient demand anyway, so we are glad the NYK Line decided to establish a second direct course from the Elbe river to New York“, says Klaus-Peter Barth, managing director NYK Line (Germany) GmbH.

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) with its headquarters in Tokyo counts among the world’s leading transport and logistics enterprises. The group operates a fleet of 142 container vessels, 321 bulk carriers, 57 woodchip carriers, 115 ro-ro vessels, 85 tankers, 30 liquid gas ships, three cruise ships and 50 other vessels. In the 2009 business year their 55,000 employees around the globe generated a turnover of about USD 18 billion.
