Ökombi sees bright and dark sides

Ökombi grew in 2008 and feels consequences of financial crisis

As a response to the current trend of ROLA-consignments Ökombi reduced its offer on the routes Wels-Szeged, Wels-Maribor and Salzburg-Trieste, expanded the offer on the Brenner-route and ceased operating on the Graz-Regensburg and Wels-Spacva routes temporarily.

With this strategy Franz Dirnbauer, Managing Director, is responding to the substantial decline in demand on part of Turkish hauliers, which made up one third of the trucks transported by Ökombi block trains. Due to their fewer demand the volume registered in January showed a year-on-year drop of 4.5 per cent to 21,217 trucks, whereas the volume forwarded on the Brenner-route showed a 11.4%-increase.

In the year 2008 Ökombi transported 330,153 trucks in total on its rolling road. This is a 14.5%-increase compared to 2007. Last year Ökombi operated 22,000 RoLa-block trains. 38 employees generated a turnover of EUR 105 million.
