Plus in waterside transhipment in Mierka Donauhafen Krems

Mierka Donauhafen Krems changed from a location operator to a complex logistics service provider in the past years

The Danube port Mierka Donauhafen Krems registered a positive business development in the first six months of 2012. Compared with last year waterside transhipment rose 35 per cent to 223,000 tonnes. According to Hubert Mierka, Managing Director, growth was mainly born by service concepts on behalf of the wind power industry and gravel transport. In the railway segment losses in the goods groups steel and road salt (due to the mild winter) caused a volume decline by 23 per cent to 118,000 tonnes. As to truck transport the statistics shows a 17 per cent-increase to 257,000 tonnes.

“In the past years we evolved from a location operator to a logistics service provider, offering a wide range of services“, stresses Hubert Mierka in his speech to the Austrian Shipper’s Council in the middle of the week. In completion to their corse business – port transhipment – the 70 employees of the private provider of trimodal logistics solutions are also working in the sectors warehousing logistics, multimodal freight station as well as freighting trucks, rail cars and river vessels.
