Port of Lübeck casts an eye on Central Europe

Intermodal network for hinterland traffic of the Port of Lübeck to be expanded to the Czech Rpeublic and Slovakia
 
The Port of Lübeck-Travemünde is preparing to establish an intermodal regular service to the Czech Republic and Greater Bratislava. The planned rail shuttle shall boost Germany’s biggest Baltic Sea port as a business partner for potential customers in eastern Austria, as the port informs.
 
"If everything runs according to schedule our block trains for the transportation of containers, swap bodies and craneable trailers will be ready to start with the change of the years 2012/13“, Tobias Behncke, Manger Intermodal ECL European Cargo Logistics GmbH (Lübeck), announced recently at a press event of Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM) in Dunajská Streda.
 
THe Port of Lübeck has experience in setting up intermodal liner services on the railway to the European hinterland. The first service of that kind was established in 2004 on the route between Germany’s Baltic Sea coast and northern Italy. There are currently five weekly trains operated between Lübeck and Verona. Eastblished in April 2011 the intermodal shuttle from Lübeck to Bettenburg, Luxemburg, and Le Boulou, southern France, is operated three times per week.
