Port of Trieste: Good results in 2008
In 2008 the seaport of Trieste, situated in north-eastern Italy, registered a 4.7%-increase in cargo handling to 48.28 million tons compared to last year. The growth areas were the product groups “Liquid Bulk” and “Container”. The first showed a 7.2%-growth in the hot-off-the-press annual statistics. The volume handled in container traffic skyrocketed by 26 per cent to 335,943 TEU. However, the RoRo operations and ferry traffics showed a negative trend. In this segment 210,000 trucks were handled in total and the cargo volume dropped by 9.3 per cent to 5.5 million tons. “The segment reflected the influence of the global economic crisis very early“, the Autorita Portuale Trieste announced with regret in a press release.
