Quehenberger Logistics enhances market apperance in Serbia

Quehenberger Logistik operates new forwarding terminal in Belgrade and is to open a location in Croatia shortly

The expansion of the Balkan network with Quehenberger Logistics, CEO Chrisitan Fürstaller had announced in February, is about to be implemented now. A 1,000 m² freight terminal will be opened in the Serbian capital Belgrade in early June. This location is conveniently situated in the northeast on the crossing point of the international Highway E75 and the ring road around Beograd to way Nis. This is an excellent position for transport to Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo. The terminal might be increased up to four times as much at short notice. The current focus lies on logistics services related to warehousing and order picking.

In the existing branch office in Novi Sad the enterprise is increasing the number of its employees in order to be able to meet the demand for logistics services in the province of Vojvodina. In parallel to the location in Belgrade with 15 employees, this station offers import/export transport management, customs clearance as well as groupage freight import from Western European countries such as Austria, Germany and Italy.

According to a forecast for the period between 2010 and 2012 the Serbian economy is expected to grow by 3.2 per cent per year on average. There is a huge economic pent-up demand especially for building materials and infrastructure; the low wage level encourages the industrial production of the country. Quehenberger’s expansion in Belgrade and Novi Sad takes account of this trend. Its own Balkan network runs via the Slovenian branch offices in Ljubljana and Logatec, where the daily groupage freight transportation coming from Austria is forwarded to Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia. Preparations to establish a national company of Quehenberger Logistics in Croatia are in their final stage. Quehenberger Logistics is by its own definition a high-quality provider of network and contract logistics in central and eastern Europe with its headquarters in Straßwalchen near Salzburg. Around 1,050 employees at 66 locations in fourteen countries generated a turnover of EUR 245 million last year. In Austria the enterprise wants to score with its leading general cargo network. Since 2010 Quehenberger Logistics has been owned by the Augustin Quehenberger Group, also based in Straßwalchen.
