Rail Cargo Austria expands Italian business

RCA/Linea hold license for five new rail connections in Italy

Despite the tense economic situation Rail Cargo Austria AG (RCA) expands its rail cargo business in Italy. In June 2009 the RCA-subsidiary Linea started operating a new line between Cavatigozzi (Cremona) and Genoa. Two trains transport biodiesel in a weekly operation on the 165-kilometers route.

Moreover RCA Group registered successes in the field of licensing for Italian routes. RCA and Linea obtained safety licences (Certificato di Sicurezza) from the Italian authority ANSF at the end of June. These are valid for the following routes: Genoa-Osoppo, Bivio d’Aurisina-Trieste, Ferrara-Ravenna-Rimini, Bologna-Firenze-Roma and La Spezia-Genova-Ventimiglia. For RCA these licences form the basis for the strategic expansion of the Italian business.

The Italian railway enterprise Linea s.r.a., based in Novara, has been affiliated to the Rail Cargo Austria AG since 1 December 2008. Linea has own rail cars and locomotive drivers as well as the required know-how for Italian rail operation. The first joint service of Rail Cargo Austria and Linea was the one between Villach and San Stino, where RCA operates a logistics platform for steel transportations.
