Ruuki underpins the steel competence of the Port of Antwerp

Finish steel producer Ruuki to install its European distribution hub in the Belgian seaport of Antwerp

Gaining a new customer from Finland the Belgian seaport of Antwerp consolidates its position as a logistics hub for the international steel industry in Europe. As of now the Ruuki group uses the Belgian port as a hub for goods distribution in Europe and forwarding of shipments to overseas destinations.

Regular weekly shipments from Northern Europe will arrive as sea cargo in Antwerp, where they will be stored temporarily and prepared for their further transport to their destinations. The logistics group Thor Shipping & Transport, and Antwerp Stevedoring International, the stevedoring division of Wijngaard Natie, will be the partners for services in the fields of vessel handling, storage and transport logistics.

The Port of Antwerp handled more than 9 million tons of steel last year, which is 30 per cent more than in 2010. More than 250 regular break bulk calls per month make the Belgian port by its own account an attractive partner for the international steel industry.
