SAL Group is now a 100%-company of “K“-Line

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. becomes the sole owner of the SAL group by the end of June

 

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. ("K"-Line) has reached a basic agreement with its partners on purchasing 50 per cent of the shares of SAL Group at the end of June 2011, hence becoming the sole owner. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) has even so far possessed 50 per cent of the shares of SAL Group via its European subsidiary company.

The SAL Group was formed in 2000 by a merger of Sigma and ASL. With their subsidiary Sigma Asl Logistics based in the UK, the SAL Group offers comprehensive logistics solutions. These range from supply chain management for the automotive industry and just-in-time solutions to customised solutions in the heavy lift segment. The focus of the latter named lies on the oil and gas industry, manly offshore and wind power energy, which the SAL Group expects to further grow. Zur Sigma Asl Logistics has 16 heavy lift vessels to cope with these transport tasks. These vessels can carry loads from 600 to 2000 tons. Two of them were delivered in December 2010 and March 2011, respectively; they are equipped with a dynamic positioning system.

The SAL Group is active in China, India, South Korea, the US, UK and Italy and is represented via partners in more countries. With this acquisition Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. (“K”-Line) wants to expand its heavy lift business, which was established under the brand name SAL, as a core business.
