Schachinger enters trade logistics with Metro

Lighthouse project at Hörsching location: Schachinger Logistik builds one of Europe s biggest warehouses in solid wood construction
 
In the coming months a new logistics facility with outstanding features with respect to ecological and economic aspects will be constructed on the spacious area of the Schachinger Logistik group in H rsching close to Linz. Together with top representatives of their major customer Metro Cash & Carry Austria and in the presence of the Upper Austrian Minister of Economy Viktor Sigl the management board of the traditional family enterprise turned the first sod for a  Green Warehouse  on 4 March. The inauguration of the building is scheduled for September 2013.
 
Until then Schachinger Logistik will implement a logistics facility with special ecological and economic features with a total investment of about EUR 10 million. The 10,000 m  hall will have a height of 14 metres and provide capacity for 4,500 food and non-food articles in a temperature range from 12 to 18 degree Celsius. In the new building Schachinger Logistik will provide storage, fine order picking, distribution and cross docking services.
 
For Metro Cash & Carry Austria this Green Logistic concept of Schachinger Logistik is an occasion to launch a long-term SCM-cooperation with the traditional family enterprise. The previous cooperation in the warehousing logistics segment with a service provider at their location in Wiener Neudorf is coming to an end. Cooperation with the respective enterprise will be continued in other   not disclosed – segments.
 
IN March 2013 Schachinger Logistik acts as a special service provider for industry logistics focussed on brands & fresh logistics, pharmaceuticals/healthcare, high tech, automotive, building materials and agricultural goods. The enterprise operates 15 logistics facilities in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia with a total hall space of about 200,000 m . The company s own fleet comprises
 
100 trailer trucks. The 520 employees lately achieved annual turnover of EUR 181 million.
