Scrapping premium boosts business at BLG Autoterminal Duisburg

BLG Autoterminal Duisburg records boom in vehicle throughput

BLG Autoterminal Duisburg reports a business-high. While the headquarters in Bremerhaven feels the impact of the economic crisis, the river terminal and the technical centre in Duisburg are working to their capacities. In March the automotive terminal handled around 15,000 cars. This is more than twice as many units as in the same period last year.

The provider of the terminal attributes this to the scrapping premium, which effected a boom in the demand for small cars. Currently around 700 small and mid-range cars are passing the facility. In March two or three block trains arrived each day. Normally five to six block trains of cars per week are arriving in Duisburg.

The automotive terminal of the BLG Logistics Group in Duisburg has about 177,000 square metres. In 2008 the terminal handled 57,000 vehicles. Most cars were quite young used cars, which were upgraded in Duisburg for resale and were distributed afterwards.
