Slightly declining cargo throughput in IGÖD ports

Mixed throughput balance of the members of the IGÖD – Austrian public Danube ports association

In spite of difficult nautical conditions the ports of the IGÖD – Austrian public Danube ports association mastered the year 2011 comparatively well. As for total throughput a slight decline of three per cent compared to the previous year was registered.

According to the statements of IGÖD Mierka Donauhafen Krems was the best performer, achieving 428,682 tons or 22 per cent more than in the same period last year. The port of Vienna missed last year’s figure by 0.25 per cent, handling about 1.135 million tons. The ports of Linz (1.141 million tons) and Enns (608,085 tons) had to face losses of eight and nine per cent, respectively.

As for land container throughput the port of Vienna achieved the biggest growth in 2011 among the IGÖD ports at 441,615 TEU (+38%), followed by Ennshafen at 277,023 TEU (+23%) and Linz at 206,518 TEU (+12%); the port of Krems registered a five per cent-decline to 30,625 TEU. In total the IGÖD ports registered a 26 per cent-increase in container throughput.
