Strong uptrend with Danish Maersk Line

Container shipping segment of A.P. Moller-Maersk Group is back in the black again

Faster and better than expected the container shipping segment of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group returned to profit. In the first six months of 2010 Maersk Line has achieved clearly black figures thanks to the world economy’s recovery and clearly increasing freight volumes. In their interim report for the period January-June they post a turnover of USD 12.48 billion (up 32.7 per cent) and an operating profit at USD 1.22 billion. The latter named item was clearly negative for the enterprise in the first half of 2009 at an outflow of minus USD 995 million.

In the reporting period Maersk Line registered a 31 per cent-increase in freight rates compared to the previous year. The volume transported increased by 11 per cent to 3.6 million FFE (Fourty Foot Equivalent Container). As of 30 June the fleet comprised 248 own vessels and 298 chartered units with a total capacity of 2.1 million TEU. As for multi purpose shipping they operate 13 chartered ships.
