Deutsche Post DHL honours Tetra Pak’s logistics solution for Asia

The trophy collection of the producer of cardboard packaging Tetra Pak includes a new object. Deutsche Post DHL honoured the worldwide active enterprise with the „DHL Innovation Award 2010“ in the category “customers” last week. The prize shall help to recognise new developments and practical solutions.

Tetra Pak received the „DHL Innovation Award 2010“ for implementing a logistics solution for all over Asia. The award winner is the first enterprise to cover its operations in Asia from a regional distribution centre in Shanghai together with DHL. The location was established for the sophisticated spare parts business of Tetra Pak. It bundles different logistics processes, as there are handled bonded and non bonded goods.

The prize for the most innovative junior scientist was awarded to Stephan Mayer for his invention of the “Flexförderer”. The system runs on modules controlled remotely without a main computer or another central infrastructure. Should a malfunction occur in one of the segments, the system automatically finds an alternative route, thereby avoiding conveyor operation coming to a halt.

The award for the most innovative employee went to Keinosuke Miyazaki and Keishi Yamada. The two members of the Logistics Technology Design Department at the contract logistics specialist DHL Supply Chain in Japan, have developed the “Heavy Weight Returnable Container” and the “Air Protector”; patents are pending. The container protects large transport goods by fusing together two sheets of urethane, which is an environmentally friendlier alternative to plastic. The “Air Protector” protects large and sensitive transports such as IT servers from damage by using specially designed air pillows.
