Tibbett Logistics opens second Bucharest intermodal terminal

Intermodal service concepts of the Romanian contract logistics specialist Tibbett Logistics about to be expanded significantly:

Tibbett Logistics is about to implement its plans to expand its national and international rail logistics activities in Romania. On 8 December the private contract logistics company of the Keswick Enterprises group opened a second intermodal (road-rail) terminal in Greater Bucharest. The facility shall relieve the terminal in the east of Romania’s capital, which was opened in 2008.

The new rail terminal is located at the Europolis Park Bucharest, where Tibbett Logistics has been operating a 22,000 m² retail distribution warehouse. The intermodal terminal was developed with a 6.4 million euro investment. In addition to road/rail throughput is includes a 6,500 m² covered warehouse for loading and unloading of rail wagons. The empty container depot provides a capacity of approximately 1,200 TEU, which is set to double by the fourth quarter of 2012.

The new intermodal terminal at the Europolis Park Bucharest will be developed in the next 12 to 18 months. It is expected that 14 trains a week will be handled by the second quarter 2012. In addition to block trains between Constanta and Bucharest, Tibbett Logistics will also operate trains with swap-bodies, containers, semi-trailers and tank containers to and from central and western European countries and Turkey.
