Volume increases and stable freight rates with Maersk Line

Maersk Line’s operating result for the first nine months is clearly above last year’s figure

Maersk Line defies a difficult market environment. Following 5.9 million FFU (40’ container units) in the first nine months of 2011, the ships of the Danish container shipping company carried 6.5 million FFU in the same period 2012. With almost stable freight rates turnover rose from 18.74 to USD 20.59 billion. The operating result rose from USD 145 million in the period from January to September 2011 to USD 241 million, the enterprise informed at the end of last week.

Maersk Line put into operation four 26.000 TEU-newbuildings in the third quarter of 2012. The fleet comprises now 241 own container vessels and 309 chartered units representing a total capacity of 2.6 million TEU (2011: 2.5 million TEU).
