DPD Poland opens new central hub of superlatives

Total investment of EUR 32 million: DPD Poland’s new central hub in Stryków can sort up to 43,000 parcels per hour

The international parcel and express service provider DPD has built a parcel sorting facility in Poland, representing a total investment of EUR 32 million. The new building will be the central hub and the spine of international and national parcel transport in this country. 430 persons are working in this logistics centre. Up to 43,000 parcels can be sorted automatically per hour.

The new sorting facility is located in the heart of Poland – in Stryków close to Lódz. The facility completes the four regional main hubs in the north, south, east and west of the country. This shortens daily transport ways for ten thousands of parcels, and DPD is therefore able to bundle more parcel flows for long distances.

“Also in Poland DPD counts among the leaders in the market for parcel and express services, and achieves double-digit growth every year", says Arnold Schroven, DPD CEO. “Starting operation of the new hub we do not only expand the capacity of our network, but also increase performance and efficiency."

The facility in Stryków, where the sorting system installed has cost over EUR 16 million, counts among Europe’s most productive parcel centres. Two sorting machines, each having the capacity of 17,500 parcels per hour, can handle parcels of up to 50 kilograms. A special sorting machine for small parcels and envelopes can handle 8,000 parcels per hour.
