Austrian Airlines Group to streamline management structure

Sharply reduced number of Austrian Airlines Group managers

As part of its restructuring measures, the Austrian Airlines Group is also to streamline its management structure. The number of Vice Presidents – who are responsible for managing the different business segments – is to be reduced from 24 to 14. Together with the 14 Senior Directors – who manage the staff functions and a number of selected specialist divisions – they will make up the top management of the Austrian Airlines Group in future. Overall, the number of managers employed by the Group at all levels will be reduced by around 45 percent from the current figure of 347.

The members of the Austrian Executive Board, Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik, commented on thi reduction as follows: “By taking this step, we are creating more efficient structures and simplifying our decision-making processes. This is an important measure, with which we will increase our impact on the market.”

The new management structure is part of a restructuring programme with which the Austrian Airlines Group intends to raise its competitiveness in the long term. The Group has already restructured its Sales, Network Planning, Ground Operations and Controlling Divisions within the bounds of the programme in recent weeks, and will have reduced its employee numbers by around 1,000, to approximately 6,500 full-time positions, by mid-2010.
