Clearly improved results of Intercontainer Austria

2009 was a year of declining volumes and optimisations for Intercontainer Austria

Intercontainer Austria is looking back on the year 2009 with mixed feelings. “The reporting period was marked by declining volumes and many measures to optimise the economic performance. We were able to considerably improve our results. We made less than half the loss posted in 2008“, Managing Director Wilhelm Patzner summarises. Turnover of the RCA subsidiary sunk from EUR 107 million in 2008 to EUR 80 million. The staff was reduced to 84 employees.

As for transport volumes the neutral container operator and specialist for combined transport has felt the consequences of the global economic crisis. Volumes operated in 2009 fell 16 per cent to 368,565 TEU compared to 2008. Due to strong downs of import traffic the maritime transport lost one fourth of the volumes and posted a total figure of 192,132 TEU (2008: 255,459 TEU). In continental transport 176,433 TEU were handled, which means minus 5 per cent. National transport decreased 3 per cent to 78,039 TEU.
