Continuous uptrend at Port of Rotterdam

Port of Rotterdam registered significant increases in goods throughput in the first three quarters of the year 2010

 

For Port of Rotterdam the year 2010 is characterised by a significant increase of freight volumes. In the period from January to September 321 million tons of goods were handled. This was 13.4 per cent above last year’s figure, as Hafenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V. states in a press release. Virtually all categories of goods showed a positive trend, except for one. The volume of iron ore and scrap soared up 112 per cent, whereas agribulk was down seven per cent in the reporting period. Import accounted for 228.5 million tons (up 14.6 per cent), while export amounted to 92.7 million tons (up 10.5 per cent).

In its general cargo segment the Port of Rotterdam registered an increase of 14 per cent to 102 million tons in the first nine months of 2010. Container traffic rose 17 per cent to 8.4 million TEU. As for the „other general cargo“ the port statistics sheet shows an increase of 14 per cent to 5 million tons. Roll-on / roll-off transport was 6 per cent up to 13 million tons, thanks to the recovery of the British economy.
