DB Schenker finalises participation with Nordcargo

 
DB Schenker now holds 49 per cent of the shares of Nordcargo in Milano

DB Schenker finalised its entry in the Italian rail cargo company Nordcargo S.r.l.. The Italian and German authorities approved the holding these days. The DB Schenker-subsidiary Railion Italia S.r.l. now holds 49 per cent of the Nordcargo shares.

NordcCargo was outsourced from the parent company Ferrovienord S.P.A. (FNM) in 2003. The enterprise operates cross-border rail cargo traffics on the north-south axis Germany-Switzerland-Italy and in north-western Italy. With 182 employees the company generated a turnover of about EUR 34 million in 2007.

The Nordcargo-holding is the second affiliate enterprise of DB Schenker in Italy. In the course of the establishment of a European network DB-Group has already acquired 95 per cent of the Strade Ferrate del Mediterraneo shares (SFM) in 2004. The Italian company was renamed to Railion Italia S.r.I. in 2005.
