DB Schenker Vienna puts into service x-ray screening for air cargo

DB Schenker Logistics branch in Vienna-Albern offers solution for air cargo scanning of “unknown shippers“ as of now

These days a universal x-ray screening system for air cargo is put into operation at the branch of Schenker & Co AG in Vienna-Albern. This allows scanning shipments of companies that are not certified as “known shippers” directly at the Vienna branch. With the exception of motors, drives or temperature controlled goods all kinds of air cargo irrespective of their size and material can be controlled with this new device and can be shipped by air freight without any further delay. The new scanning machine is using a IONSCAN 500 DT detector in a single analysing step, so forty different substances can be identified, such as explosives or drugs.

„As of now our customers can either be certified as ‚known’ shipper by the validation company acting on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Technology, or have their shipments scanned directly at our Vienna branch. The new x-ray machine is meeting all legal requirements according to the EU-regulation“, says Markus Aminger, MBA, managing director of the DB Schenker branch Vienna.

According to the regulations of the European Union (VO EG 300/2008 and VO EU 185/2010) air cargo shipments from Austria must be scanned before shipment, if they are not sent by a ‚known shipper’ with effect from 29 April 2013.
