DHL Supply Chain wins major contract from VW in Slovakia

Contract logistics division of DHL takes over parts of the internal logistics at the VW-plant in Bratislava

Volkswagen Group enhances the longstanding cooperation with DHL Supply Chain. On the basis of a five-year contract that became effective with 1 April 2010, the contract logistics specialist within the Deutsche Post DHL assumes, apart from other activities, a significant part of the internal logistics for the VW plant in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava.

With around 800 employees DHL coordinates the internal plant logistics for 50 per cent of the production materials for the Volkswagen models manufactured in Bratislava. These are e.g. vehicle components like motors, gear units and wind screens for Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. The contract logistician provides services in the following areas: inbound operations, storage, commissioning, sequencing and supply of parts directly to the Volkswagen production lines.

“Logistics plays a crucial role in car manufacturing. DHL has convinced us in the tender process with innovative concepts and a supply chain solution that is customised to our requirements", says Juraj Janáè, logistics manager of Volkswagen in Bratislava.

Pavel Hendrych, Managing Director DHL Supply Chain Slovakia: Our team will cooperate tightly with VW to improve even details of the whole solution. DHL’s strong presence at location and our expertise in the automotive industry mean a significant added value for our customers in the future."
