“Semmering Basistunnel“: Felbermayr supports preliminary work for tunnel drilling and placing bridge elements
 
Numerous cranes and platforms of the Felbermayr corporate group are currently being used for the first construction stage of the new “Semmering Basistunnel". The devices will mainly be used for preliminary work of tunnel drilling and placing of bridge elements.
 
This first construction stage includes major of preparatory work for the Semmering Basistunnel, among it a preliminary portal cutting for the actual tunnel as well as numerous flood protection measures. “Two new railway bridges across the Schwarza river will also be built", says Peter Rinner at the Felbermayr location in Gloggnitz.
 
The bridges will be set up using two 120-tonnes cranes. Moreover some telescopic lifts and working platforms will be required for the assembly of the steel construction. Preliminary set-up of the bridges shall be completed by mid-September and they can be introduced. The first construction stage shall be completed by October 2014, when tunnel drilling will start in Gloggnitz, which is the main work for the construction of the 27.3 kilometres Semmering Basistunnel. Completion is scheduled for 2024.
