No increase in prices for national UCT for the moment

Rail Cargo Austria suspends planned increase in tariffs for national UCT for 4 months

The increase in tariffs for national unaccompanied combined transport by 10 per cent, which was scheduled for 1 March 2010 is off the table for the moment. Rail Cargo Austria AG has suspended the planned measure for 4 months after a discussion in the Ministry of Transport.

As CombiNet – Netzwerk Kombinierter Verkehr, an association for combined transport, announces in a press release: “After prices have already been increased by 9 to 15 per cent on 1 July 2009, RCA has postponed the 10 per cent increase on these tariffs that was planned for 1 March 2010 to 1 July 2010 in a first step and left open the amount of the price adjustment“.

The CombiNet association considers this decision as a partial success of their endeavours to keep and expand the volumes in rail cargo transport. “We are aware that further creative steps from all parties considered are required in order to find and implement future-oriented solutions for an economical handling and to meet the aims of the Austrian and European transport policy to shift goods traffic“, writes Herbert Peherstorfer, Chairman of the association.
