NYK-RoRo: First call of “Grand Legacy“ in Hamburg

“New blood” for EME service of NYK-RoRo shipping company

The EME service of the NYK-RoRo shipping company scores with a new special feature. The “Grand Legacy“ has just completed its first tour. On its first call at the port of Hamburg the vessel was loaded with new and used cars together with 89 buses of the “Mercedes-Benz Citaro“-type. The buses are to be shipped to Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.

The Grand Legacy“ is a so-called PCTC (Pure Car-Pure Truck Carrier)-vessel that offers a capacity of 6,400 RT and storage slots for up to 4,950 cars. Delivered in May 2009 by the Japanese shipyard Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., the newly built unit is 200 metres long and 32 metres wide. It is equipped with 12 decks, which allow utilising available space ideally, as the shipping company stated.

The new vessel operates in the EME service (Europe – Middle East) of NYK-RoRo to the Middle East. In a two-weeks rhythm all main ports there are served: Aqaba and Jeddah in the Red Sea as well as P.S.Qaboos, Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bahrain, Dammam and Kuwait in the Arabian Gulf. Moreover the service calls in India. Further destinations, like Bandar Abbas or Umm Qasr are served on demand.
