Port of Hamburg defends its strong position in Austria

Port of Hamburg feels ready for future growth thanks to continued investments

The financial and economic crisis seems to have passed without leaving any traces at the relations between the Hamburg port industry and their business partners in Austria. More than 300 persons attended the welcome event of Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM) on 5 May in Vienna. This shows once again the tight relationship between the enterprises in the leading German seaport and Austrian companies.

In her short speech Claudia Roller, CEO of Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., pointed out that the North German Port has also moved forward in the difficult year 2009. In concrete terms she referred to the considerable investments into the expansion and modernisation of the infrastructures. It was thanks to these measures that they were well prepared for future growth, Ms. Roller confirmed.

Regarding intermodal transport, Austria is the third-most important market for the Port of Hamburg. “In 2009 around 250,000 TEU were handled in transit business. Thus we handled nearly 50 per cent of the containerised consignments going to and coming from Austria “, Alexander Till, Manager of the Port of Hamburg Marketing e.V. office in Vienna, announced proudly.
