WienCont: New European-wide trains in 2013

Total turnover at WienCont terminal in Vienna was on one of the highest levels in the company’s history in 2012

In spite of the strained global economic situation the year 2012 had quite a respectable result in turnover for the WienCont group. At 425,000 TEU total throughput volume at the trimodal container terminal of the Port of Vienna was four per cent below last year’s record level (440,000 TEU). However, this figure is 33 per cent higher than in 2010, which is, nonetheless one of the highest levels in the history of the terminal Vienna-Freudenau, the company emphasises in a press release. In this letter WienCont managers Robert Groiß and Karin Zipperer announce “new European-wide trains for 2013“. These train connections shall boost the development of WienCont Vienna as a central hub on the east-west and the north-south corridor, respectively. The new container crane that was set-up for this purpose shall start operation in the next months and increases total capacity at the Viennese site by 20 to 30 per cent.

Including the sites in Villach (+ 30%), Wels (+ 20%) and Graz (- 9%) the WienCont group handled 478,000 TEU last year, which means a 4%-decline compared with 2011. The management ascribes the 9%-decline in storage to container shortage and short storage times in the depot. Container repair also registered a slight decline with 7,800 repaired boxes in 2012.

WienCont is the operator of the container terminal in the Port of Vienna, a company of the Wien Holding. The company operates also empty container depots, container trade and repair at the locations in Graz, Wels and Villach.
