duisport reaches historical record in container throughput

Total handling of Duisburger Hafen AG thanks to containers, chemicals and mineral oils almost at pre-crisis level in 2010

The year 2010 brought a positive business development for Duisburger Hafen AG. Container handling on the three modes of transport ship, train and truck rose to about 2.25 million TEU, which is a historic record result. This is equivalent to a plus of about 25 per cent in this segment compared with the strong previous year, the enterprise reports in a brief overview.

At nearly 28 million tonnes, total handling on ship and train in the duisport group’s ports has almost reached the level of the record year 2008 (28.3 million tonnes). While coal handling was largely able to compensate for the strong declines last year, the recovery in steel handling remained well below the pre-crisis level. However, mineral oils and chemical products developed quite well.

“The excellent results in container handling show that we are on the right way at the Duisburg location. This strengthens us in our intention to develop our capacity in order to direct growing flows of goods through Duisburg,” Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG said about the development.
