GLS Austria boosted by ast European business

Parcel service GLS Austria registers substantial growth in export

By now about 20 per cent of the consignments of the parcel and express service provider GLS Austria are crossing the border as Euro Business-Parcel. According to an announcement of the Management the total export volume increased by 15 percent since the beginning of the current financial year in April 2008. This development is mainly boosted by the growing demand for parcel logistic services towards destinations in Eastern Europe.

Within the last twelve months GLS Austria transported 29 per cent more parcels eastwards than in the previous year. “Eastern Europe will also have potential in the future”, said Klaus Schädle, Managing Director GLS Europe South. “We are expecting the East European market to grow faster than the West European market during the next years. Therefore our export volumes to this region will increase stronger than the national volume.”

Around one fifth of all GLS-export clients send parcels to the Czech Republic, Hungary or Romania. Mr. Schädle: “We are well represented in these countries and are able to offer short regular transport times, e.g. by the aid of direct traffics. This shows big success among our clients.“ The parcel service provider handles consignments from Austria to Romania within a transport time of 48 hours.
