Metrans operates trains to Salzburg

HHLA subsidiary Metrans expands rail network in the hinterland of North European seaports to Salzburg in Austria

Metrans is improving the connection between Salzburg, Austria, and seaports in Northern Europe. While special trains had been operated occasionally in 2011 and 2012, container trains operated by HHLA’s subsidiary now run several times a week on this link. The connection is via Metrans’ Prague hub, Europe’s second largest inland terminal. That allows the company to offer customers higher frequency and greater reliability. The locomotives and railcars are supplied by Metrans Rail.

During recent months Metrans started operating trains from Hamburg to Krems (Austria), Leipzig, Nuremberg and Munich, among others, with the objective to expand its network between the seaports and their hinterland,

Metrans links the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria as well as south and east Germany to the German seaports and the Slovenian Adriatic port Koper. More than 70 weekly shuttle trains are operated between Prague and Hamburg. Metrans operates eight own inland terminals. At the start of this year they started operating the hub terminal in Česká Třebová (CZ), with transport operations between Krems and the German seaports running via the terminal.
